Opa’s Veldje (Granpa’s Field) appeals to the imagination. Visitors will agree that it’s certainly a place where grandparents can enjoy themselves with their grandchildren. The big meadow-like field offers plenty of space to play football or just monkey around. And at the neighbouring playground, the kids will definitely have a great time.

In recent years, the field has often been at risk of disappearing, which makes a visit even more worthwhile. All you need to bring is a ball or a picnic rug and before you know it, you and the kids will have a wonderful afternoon!

In 2018, scientific research provided evidence that Leidschendam is the birthplace of Dutch football. Because until 1882, Leidschendam was home to Jongenskostschool Noorthey, where the first football match on Dutch soil was played around 1864.
